The Cure for Juvinile Diabetes Invitational
Jay Kuehmeier, Age 4

Four-year-old Jay Kuehmeier was diagnosed with juvenile diabetes in October of 2005.  As a two year old, he didn’t know why he was consuming fluids excessively and frequently urinating.  Luckily, his parents recognized his symptoms and he immediately went to the hospital.

Jay currently wears a pump which constantly provides him insulin to live and requires manual programming of insulin whenever he consumes carbohydrates.  His blood sugar is constantly checked through finger pricks including a test in the middle of the night to make sure his blood sugar does not go too low.  Jay is interested in hockey, golf, baseball, and John Deere equipment.  Jay doesn’t know life without diabetes but recently asked his parents when they came back from a juvenile diabetes fund raiser “Did you find a cure?”
